Sonus Festival 2026 at Zrce Beach, Novalja — 5 days of underground techno, house and electronic music on Pag island. August 16–20. One of Europe's most respected boutique electronic events.
Sonus Festival is widely considered the most musically credible and underground-focused of the major Zrce Beach festivals — a five-day gathering at Novalja's legendary Pag island beach that has built a devoted following among serious electronic music fans who value programme quality over commercial spectacle. Founded in 2013, Sonus has consistently delivered some of the highest-quality techno and house bookings in European festival culture, drawing artists like Nina Kraviz, Ricardo Villalobos, Marcel Dettmann, Adam Beyer, Loco Dice, and Joseph Capriati to the open-air clubs of Zrce.
The Sonus Approach
While other Zrce events cater to a broader audience range, Sonus is resolutely underground in its orientation — the bookings are driven by artistic credibility rather than commercial profile, the production emphasises the music over spectacle, and the atmosphere encourages listening rather than simply partying. This has made it the preferred Zrce event for electronic music connoisseurs, and its audience skews more towards music-focused attendees than the broader festival crowd at Hideout or Fresh Island Festival.
Programme
The Sonus musical palette centres on techno and its adjacent genres — minimal techno, deep tech, techno with melodic elements, industrial techno — alongside deeper house and electronica. The extended format (5 days, 5 nights) allows for more adventurous programming than single-night club events: long sets, back-to-back collaborations, and the kind of musical journey that only makes sense when the audience has committed to an extended stay.
Zrce and Novalja in Late August
By the time Sonus runs in mid-to-late August, the Adriatic sea is at its warmest (26–28°C), the evenings are beginning to take on the first hints of autumn (slightly cooler after midnight), and Novalja's peak-season crowds are beginning to thin. This makes the combination of outdoor beach festival and warm sea swimming particularly compelling. For a deeper Kvarner experience beyond the festival, Rijeka and Opatija are accessible for day trips. Dekmantel Selectors at Tisno runs the same week.
