The Brijuni archipelago consists of 14 islands off the western coast of Istria. Once Tito's private retreat, the islands feature Mediterranean vegetation, archaeological sites dating back to the Roman era, and a safari park with exotic animals gifted by world leaders. The main island, Veliki Brijun, offers visitors dinosaur footprints, a Byzantine castrum, and beautifully maintained parkland. Access is by boat from Fazana.
