Pakrac is a quiet western Slavonian town on the Pakra River whose name is inseparably linked to the outbreak of the 1991–95 Croatian War of Independence — it was here, in early 1991, that armed Serb insurgents first seized the municipal police station in one of the first armed confrontations of the
