A picturesque stone village on the northern coast of Brač island, Pučišća is famous as the world capital of the brilliant white Brač stone (Brački kamen) — the same limestone used to build Diocletian's Palace in Split and the White House in Washington. The village's stonemason school (Klesarska škola) is the only one of its kind in Croatia, keeping alive centuries of craft tradition. The village itself forms a perfect sheltered harbour surrounded by gleaming white stone houses, crystal-clear water, and bougainvillea — one of the most photogenic spots on the Dalmatian coast.
