A compact spa town in Požega-Slavonia County, Lipik has been celebrated for its thermal mineral springs since the 19th century when it was developed as one of the most fashionable spas of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The historic spa park and its thermally-heated pools are the town's centrepiece. Lipik is also historically associated with the Lipizzan horse breed — a notable stud farm operated here before World War II — and has rebuilt itself with remarkable resilience after severe damage in the 1991–95 war.
