A quiet inland village on the northern part of Pag Island, Kolan is at the heart of the Paški sir (Pag cheese) producing region — the island's world-famous sheep cheese that is protected by EU designation of origin. The village is surrounded by dry karst fields where the hardy indigenous Pag sheep graze on aromatic herbs, producing the milk that makes Pag cheese unique. Lavender fields and vineyards (Žutica and Gegić grape varieties) add to the agricultural character of the landscape. The best months to visit Kolan are May, June, September, October.
